What does your organisation/group do?
Repair Cafe Wales opens & supports repair cafés in Wales and beyond. We are a Not-for-Profit organisation dedicated to creating a culture of repair and reuse, to encourage communities that want to work towards a more Circular Economy. Our core values are waste reduction, skills-sharing and building community connections.
Repair cafes are pop-up events that are run by volunteers. They are often held in community venues on regular dates (eg. first Saturday of the month.) Local people can bring their broken or damaged household items to be fixed, for free, by volunteers. Typical repairs include clothes, household electrics, technology, woodwork, children’s toys, furniture and bikes.
What we’re looking for:
The Volunteer Organiser recruits and liaises with other volunteers (hosts and fixers), with the repair café venue and with the Repair Café Wales team. They organise the administrative side of the repair café, oversee publicity and liaise with the Repair Café Wales team. The Volunteer Organiser is key to the success of the repair café. The role can be shared between two people if preferred.
The sorts of skills we look for are:
• Good at planning and organising
• Good communicator who is comfortable liaising with people
• Conscientious about ensuring that the repair café runs in life with the policies set out in Repair Café Wales’ Starter Kit
• Good at publicising the events – or happy to recruit someone to help with this
Repair Café Wales provides a dedicated member of staff to support each Volunteer Organiser. We also provide a comprehensive Starter Kit, packed with all of the resources you will need. We provide training in completing the repair forms, advice about insurance and a template risk assessment.
