This volunteering opportunity is open to everyone, but we especially encourage applications from students from minority ethnic communities
Organisation’s profile:
Jewish History Association of South Wales/Cymdeithas Hanes Iddewig De Cymru (JHASW/CHIDC) was formed in 2017 with the aim to:
- Preserve the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Jewish communities of south Wales and surrounding areas, including (but not limited to) historical records, artefacts, and oral histories.
- Make these historical records, artefacts, and oral histories available to members of the public, following recognised archives’ and museums’ cataloguing standards.
- Promote, raise awareness, and enhance public knowledge of the Jewish heritage in south Wales by any means available.
Project’s outline:
The aim of the project is to provide training in heritage-based skills, together with an opportunity to apply these skills in a practical, hands-on setting.
Volunteers will be working with the historical records of Cardiff Reform Synagogue (e.g., minute books, financial records, letters, photographs, etc.)
The skills developed during this project will be transferable and can be applied to many areas within the heritage sector.
