Shining Stars Cardiff CIC is a warm and nurturing early years setting dedicated to providing high-quality care and education for children aged 2 to 5, as well as helping to train ethnic minority women in childcare. We believe in creating a stimulating and supportive environment where children can develop their confidence, curiosity, and love of learning.
As a community-focused nursery, we actively engage with families and the wider community to provide the best possible start for our little learners. Our digital presence plays a key role in sharing our values, activities and achievements while keeping parents informed and engaged.
About the Role
We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Volunteer Social Media & Content Officer to help manage and grow our social media presence and contribute to our website through engaging blog posts. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the creative and analytical aspects of digital content.
You will be responsible for planning, creating and scheduling engaging content that reflects the nursery’s activities, ethos and key messages. Your work will help increase awareness of Shining Stars Cardiff CIC, showcase our vibrant learning environment, and keep our community updated on events and initiatives.
To stay connected with the team and ensure content is authentic and engaging, you will need to visit the nursery once a week to gather insights for blog content and stay informed about what’s happening.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, create and schedule engaging social media posts, including images, videos and captions.
• Write and publish blog posts for the nursery’s website, covering topics such as nursery activities, parenting tips and early childhood education.
• Visit the nursery once a week to capture content and stay up to date with activities.
• Highlight the nursery’s daily activities, special events and educational themes.
• Monitor engagement and interactions, responding to comments and messages when appropriate.
• Analyse social media insights to understand what content works best and make recommendations for improvement.
• Maintain a consistent tone and style that aligns with the nursery’s ethos.
• Stay up to date with social media and content marketing trends.
Skills & Experience
We welcome volunteers with a passion for social media and writing, even if they don’t have formal experience. However, the following skills would be highly beneficial:
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Creativity and an eye for engaging visuals.
• Basic graphic design or video editing skills (Canva, Photoshop, or similar tools would be a plus).
• Understanding of Facebook and Instagram, including scheduling tools.
• Basic knowledge of website blogging platforms (WordPress, Wix, or similar).
• Ability to analyse performance metrics and suggest improvements.
• Good organisational skills and the ability to work independently to meet deadlines.
Time Commitment
This role is flexible and can be done remotely, with an estimated commitment of a few hours per week, including one weekly morning visit to the nursery.
