School Appeals Panel Member

Parents and carers have the legal right to appeal against the admission authority’s decision to refuse their child a place at their preferred school and these appeals are heard by an independent panel of three individuals.

Skills:

• Read paperwork and written representation submitted for each appeal.
• Understand policies and relevant legislation (training provided).
• Have good communication and listening skills.
• Work with integrity and fairness.
• Be able to exercise sound judgment and make a well-reasoned decision.
• Have awareness of equality issues.
• Be reliable on days of an appeal hearing.
• Need the ability to work with other appeal panel members.
