We are looking for volunteers to run our “Wellbeing Cafe” in Llanishen hub that will start in September. The wellbeing café is a group that tackles social isolation and poor mental health by creating a friendly, relaxed and welcoming space for all, including those experiencing memory loss.
The group will run every Tuesday 10am to 12pm (volunteer needed 9.45 – 12.15) at Llanishen Hub, Station Road, CF14 5LS.
We are looking for people who:
- Are interested in people and their stories. The ideal volunteer will provide a warm welcome to everyone who comes, enjoy talking to people and be good at initiating conversations.
- Can set up the space and clear it up afterwards. The ideal volunteer will be happy to help move tables and chairs to create space and make teas and coffees for attendees as needed.
- Have some knowledge about dementia or be willing to learn. You don’t need to be an expert and we’ll provide you with training but the volunteer will need to be patient and flexible.
- Come up with activities for the group and take part in activities. The ideal volunteer will take an active role in planning, organising and leading activities for the group. Volunteers need to also be happy to join in with group activities to help create a fun atmosphere.
- Communicate with their mentor and hub staff. The volunteer will need to let the mentor know what hours they volunteered and how many people attended. The volunteer will also need to let the mentor know straight away if they are worried about any attendees.
Special requirements:
- You must be 18 or over
- Happy to undergo a DBS check (please talk to us if you have any concerns about this)
- You must be able to volunteer on a predictable schedule (weekly is ideal but it’s more important that we can plan around your availability)
- We will ask for 2 references before you start volunteering with us (please chat to us if you have any concerns)
- The group is conducted in English so your spoken English needs to allow you to explain activities to the group and answer adhoc queries and requests.
- We’re not able to provide certificates of sponsorship or support people to relocate so this vacancy is for people already living in or near Cardiff.
